Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the Mexican-American culture that is widely celebrated in the U.S where people drink margaritas, eat tacos, and have fun. Today, Cinco de Mayo is not widely celebrated in Mexico. They mainly celebrate it in the state of Puebla. In Mexico, they honor Independence Day on September 16, which is the nation’s most important national holiday. In the United States, though, Cinco de Mayo has become a way to honor Mexican culture and heritage.
In the town of Puebla, Mexico, the origin of Cinco de Mayo, locals dress up as Mexican and French soldiers and reenact the Battle of Puebla. You can also enjoy traditional dances, great food, Mariachi music, and colorful dress and decorations.
I have a few recipes for your Cinco de Mayo gatherings below.
Margarita
Margarita. If there’s one drink you associate with Cinco de Mayo, it’s probably this one. The classic combination of tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur is popular for a reason: It’s a delicious drink and it’s easy to make. I made Watermelon and Pineapple Margaritas for this festivities.
Mexican Street Corn Salad
This Mexican Street corn salad is smoky, spicy, tangy and simple to throw together. A fun twist on the Mexican street vendor version of corn on the cob!
To make this salad you will need: Fresh corn or cans of corn, sour cream, Oaxaca cheese or queso fresco, lime, jalapeño, cilantro, red onion, and tomato. Mix everything up and enjoy it!
Dulce de Leche Cupcake
If you’ve never had dulce de leche, you’re going to spend the rest of your life wishing you would have tried it sooner!
Guacamole
My favorite way to make a delicious Guacamole is adding some tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper to the avocados, mixing this up. The final result is a delicious and simple Guacamole.
Carnitas tacos
They’re filled with meltingly tender pork that’s finished with perfect, crisp edges. Just make your carnitas in a slow cooker super easy, and add some fresh toppings. I love adding some fresh mangoes to give it a fresh and fruity flavor!
Cheese and Mango salsa sides
Having sides on your table for Cinco de Mayo festivities is always a plus! So be creative and have as many as you want!
I hope you enjoy all these delicious recipe ideas and have fun with your friends this upcoming Cinco de Mayo!
